Garcinia Cambogia which belongs to the family Clusiaceae is the most im­portant species of Garcinia genus. It is a moderate sized tree grows in the western ghats of South India and forest of Nilgiris. Leaves dark glossy green, elliptic-obovate, opposite. Flowers orange-reddish. Fruit which is commer­cially important part, globular, brown - dark brown colored with deep ver­tical grooves. Seeds enclosed within the succulent resinous fruit.

SALAI GUGGAL:

Salai Guggal or Indian Olibanum, grows abundantly in the Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujrat. The oleo-gum resin which exudes from the wounds or cuts on the trees is the commercial part of importance. The plant is a medium sized to large deciduous balsarniferous tree. Leaves imparipinnate. Leaflets ovate or ovate-lanceolate. Flowers white in axillary racemes.
